SPRING CLEANING

God has truly blessed us in so many ways and one way has been the beautiful weather. The mild temperatures and sunny days have been wonderful!! Spring has truly sprung in Indiana!!

I love all the seasons that God has given to us. The spring season has always been a time for me to really "deep" clean my house. The cold and gloomy winter days give way to bright, warm and sunny spring days, which tends to bring out all the hidden dirt and little dust bunnies that have laid dormant during the winter months!!
This is the time I clean out closets and re-organize, wash windows and screens, and dust things I normally don't get to. I also love opening the windows and allowing the fresh air to circulate throughout my home.

Everything outside begins to sing with new life!!! The buds come out on the trees, the sun feels so good on your skin, the birds are singing their song, and the sweet smell of daffodils and lillies are in the air!

I always feel refreshed after I give my house a good "spring cleaning." Sometimes we need to do the same thing with our spiritual houses. All of us grow stale from time to time and need a spiritual freshening up. As Christians, we must always remember who is living within us.

I Corinthians 6:13 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Things get tucked away back in the recesses of our spiritual closets that aren't needed. We accumulate grime and dirt on our spiritual floors and walls. From time to time we need to turn our spiritual homes upside down and clean them inside out in order to present it holy and acceptable unto God.

Romans 12:2 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

So, let's roll up our sleeves and get to work!!

Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

EVALUATE

What needs to be done in order to clean up our spiritual homes? Only you know the areas that need worked on in your own individual life. Evaluate everything you do, say and think.

Is it pleasing to the Lord?

Colossians 3:17 "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. "

GET RID OF JUNK

Are there things in your life that are junking and cluttering up your "spiritual house? Are these things getting in your way of serving the Lord to your greatest potential? Are there things like worry, bitterness, anger, gossip and bad habits slowing you down? If so, get rid of it!!

"Junk in, Junk out." If we allow junk in, it will work its way outwardly. We can get rid of junk by allowing the Word in and keeping our minds on things above!

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

GATHER CLEANING TOOLS
When you clean your home, you gather your cleaning tools, such as a vaccum (love love love!), scrub brush, a mop (hands and knees!!), a broom, bucket, etc.

All you need to clean your spiritual home is one thing…. THE WORD OF GOD! It’s your ALL- purpose cleaning tool and contains EVERYTHING you will need!

Hebrews 4:12 “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”

GATHER CLEANERS

Cleaning our homes usually takes all kinds of cleaners – Windex, pledge, bleach (of course ) and disinfectants (give me the Lysol please!!) When it comes to cleaning our spiritual homes, all we need is ONE ALL- PURPOSE CLEANING AGENT – The Blood of Jesus Christ! It is guaranteed to cleanse ALL grime and dirt, which embodies itself as “sin buildup!”

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing But the Blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again?
Nothing But the Blood of Jesus!

I John 1:7 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."

GET TO WORK
If we gathered all our cleaning tools and supplies to clean our homes, and then evaluated what work needed to be done and did nothing, it wouldn't help us! We have to use the supplies and actually do some work! The same is true with our spiritual houses. God gives us His Word and His Forgiveness but we have to use them in order to keep our lives clean.

Psalm 119:11 “Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee”

DETERMINE TO KEEP IT CLEAN

Usually when we finish cleaning our homes, we look around and say that we’ll never let the clutter pile up again and we determine to keep it looking clean. We should be determined to do the same in our spiritual house too! The only way to accomplish this is by staying in God’s precious Word, make sure the Blood of Jesus Christ has been applied to our hearts, and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.

Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, “Walk in the Spirit,” and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

I have lots to do so I better get busy. What about you? Are you caught up on your “spring cleaning?”
