I am trusting in the Great Physician who is able to do anything! He has raised the dead, healed the diseased, and opened blinded eyes! He has parted the Red Sea and caused the lame to walk again! Is there anything too hard for our God? Jeremiah 32:17 says, “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:
We are here one day and gone the next! What we do each and every single day matters! Everything matters! Little did I know when I started this letter several weeks ago that I would be faced with thinking about the very subject that I am writing to you about! Coincidence? No! Everything that happens in my life and in yours, is working ALL together for our good! (Romans 8:28)
In James 4:14, it says, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
James describes our life as a “vapor,” it appears for a short time and then it is gone. When you stop and take a look at that verse, it soberly reminds us of just how short our life really is. When I stop to think about my own life, I find it hard to believe that I have been on this earth for 45 years! Time has seemed to vanish into thin air! I remember as a young girl, how I couldn’t wait to drive and get out of high school, but looking back on my life now, oh how I wish I could go back and be young again! Isn’t that crazy? It’s true! The fact is I can’t go back and neither can you. All we have is today!
Have you ever stopped and said to yourself, “Where has the time gone? Time just seems to run as fast as it can and it’s impossible to slow it down or catch up with it!! We have gotten so caught up in “life” that we have forgotten how to live life!
The Psalmist describes our life as a “breath,” Psalms 39:5a says, “Behold, thou hast made my days as a handbreadth. Breathe in and breathe out; that’s how short our life is in the scheme of things!
We have allowed so many distractions to take away precious time that we can never get back again. Many things have kept us from spending quality time with the Lord and His Word! Unimportant things have kept us from spending quality time with our families. Life has become so demanding and expectations are impossible to meet, or so it seems. The workplace has become a huge “time consumer” for many. “Overtime” is a word that seems all too familiar for those who are trying to just get ahead.
Personally, I know for me, this past year has seemed to fly by, literally! It seems like just yesterday that Xander was born! I remember thinking how I couldn't wait for him to be able to crawl and smile and now he is walking and talking!! Wow, how the time is passing so quickly.
All that has happened over the last couple of weeks has really made me stop and think about the things that are important in my life and how I need to spend my time with the ones I love!
Life is so short, dear friends! We somehow have to take back the time God has given to us and make time for the things that really matter; God, family, and friends! None of us have a single guarantee that we will be here tomorrow!
Matthew 6:34 says, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Why worry about tomorrow? God is already there and He is in control of ALL things! We have been given today. What are you doing with it? Have you taken time out today to talk to your Heavenly Father and read from His precious Word? Are you spending quality time with your spouse? Are you taking time out to talk with your children and really listen to what they have to say? Are you witnessing every chance you get to family and friends? If you can’t answer yes to all of these questions, you are too busy! Remember, life is short. Today is the day we have been given. What are you doing with it?
As I type this letter, someone, somewhere is getting news that none of us want to hear. It could be your spouse, a family member, or your child. We have today at this very moment to make a difference.
Let’s begin right now, starting with me, to commit more time to the ones we love and the things that matter the most. When I come to the end of my journey, I want to look back and say, "I have run the race, I have fought the fight, and I have kept the faith!" (II Timothy 4:7) I want to live every day from this day forward, like it’s my last! Will you join me today by making the same commitment to take back the time God has given us and live life to the best of our ability?
Life is Short….Be Ready!! Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Someday each one of us will stand before the Lord and give an account of the things we have done here on this earth. There is NO escaping this. “If you were to die today, do you know of certain that you would go to Heaven? If not, ask Him into your heart today! (Romans 10:9-10) Don’t delay! No one knows the hour or the time when the Lord will return. That’s why it’s so important that we live our life like today may be our last! Matthew 24:42,44 says, “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man cometh”
Life is short….Take time every day to talk to God and read His precious Word He has given to us! What a great way to start each day! Psalms 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalms 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Life is short…. Don’t worry about trivial stuff and neglect the most precious thing we have, moments that will never pass our way again! "Don’t sweat the small stuff!” John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Life is short….Love unconditionally! There is no greater gift than the gift of LOVE. Love can melt the hardest heart. If we love God, we will love each other I Peter 1:22 says, “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned(sincere) love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently(enthusiastic, fiery)
Life is short…. Give forgiveness where forgiveness is needed. Life is too short to hold on to bitterness and unforgiveness. Don’t waste time holding on to grudges or being offended because of what someone said or did! That’s small stuff! Love them anyway and move on! Let it go and let God’s forgiveness rush into your heart!! Colossians 3:13 says, Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye”
Life is short …. Never let the ones you love walk out the door without telling them how much they mean to you. It may be the last time you get the opportunity.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me and those reading this letter to take the time to love You more and others around us. Life is short and so uncertain, but we know that You hold all things in your hand. You hold all our tomorrows! You have already been there and know what’s best for us! Help us to slow down and listen more and take the time to be there for those who really need us. May we live today like it could be our last day and make a positive difference in those around us! It’s time to make time for You, Lord, and for our families! Draw us closer to You as we see the day approaching when You will come for us in the clouds!
In Jesus’ Name
Encouraged in Heart. . . United in Love
